An Aberdeen law student received her degree and diploma yesterday, after studying for both at the same time.
Samantha Scorgie, 22, gained a first class honours degree in law as well as her diploma in professional legal practice (DPLP), and already has a job lined up.
It has not been an easy year for Miss Scorgie after her uncle, to whom she was very close, died suddenly in February.
She said: “It means so much because I know he would be really proud of me if he was here.
“It happened so quickly after I had to hand in my dissertation – it was really hard to do everything and to do the diploma full-time.”
She chose to study law as she wanted a job where expert knowledge and understanding could really make a difference.
She will have the opportunity to put her knowledge to the test when she begins work as a contracts engineer with Bibby Offshore.
“I hope to learn a lot from this role in both a commercial and legal capacity,” she said.
“Now I have the DPLP and my first class I guess the world is my oyster and in years to come I hope to see myself as either a contracts guru in oil and gas or a trained in-house solicitor in oil and gas.”
Miss Scorgie will enjoy one last summer as a student with a trip to Las Vegas, before embarking on her new career.
