An Inverness student will use the skills she learned at university to help disadvantaged children in South America.
Gemma MacLean, who gained a degree in nutrition and dietetics from Robert Gordon University yesterday, will travel to Bolivia to volunteer for 10 weeks.
She will be working to support children and young people who live on the streets.
The 22-year-old said: “I’m going with the charity Tearfund and the International Citizens Service.
“I’m going there at the end of September to do voluntary work for 10 weeks so it will be a good opportunity to get some more experience. We’ll be doing various things out there so we could have the chance to work in places like hospitals and things as well.”
Miss MacLean chose her course as she wanted an interesting career that would allow her to help other people.
She has enjoyed a number of opportunities while studying, including a two week placement at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow.
Following her trip to South America, she hopes to become a clinical dietician in a hospital.
She said: “It should be a great experience and now I’ve got my degree from RGU the opportunities I’ll have in the future are very exciting.”
