Students from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen were treated to a perfect day for photographs as they graduated at the city’s HM Theatre yesterday.
Students from the faculty of health and social care were in the spotlight yesterday as the summer ceremonies continued.
Families and friends travelled to the city from around the world to join the celebrations, and were warmly welcomed in a number of languages by university Principal Ferdinand von Prondzynski.
Speeches made to the graduates by Mr von Prondzynski and university chancellor Sir Ian Wood highlighted the importance of these worldwide connections.
Sir Ian also reminded graduates of the importance of global responsibility, adding: “More than a third of our world’s population life in abject poverty and life threatening misery on less than £1 a day.
“There are huge inequalities of health, wealth and opportunity. Every life does not have equal value.
“Many of the problems exist because my generation has not accepted the concept of global responsibility and failed miserably in the challenge of enhancing the harmony, prosperity and wellbeing of mankind.
“My great hope is that your generation will be different and do something.”
Mr von Prondzynski also commented on the advancement of health and social care around the world, urging the graduates to work to the best of their abilities.
The graduation ceremonies will continue today with art, design, architecture, computing and engineering students collecting their degrees.
