A fire in an Aberdeen university building sparked a mass evacuation earlier today.
At around 9.45am, fire crews were alerted to a fire in the University of Aberdeen’s Meston Building on Meston Walk.
The building’s fire alarm was activated and fire services were automatically notified.
Around 50 students had to be evacuated from the building, after two fire engines from Central Station and one from North Anderson Drive arrived on scene.
Nobody was hurt in the incident and firefighters are currently working to ventilate the premises.
It is understood the fire was caused by an incident in a laboratory but full details are as yet unknown.
Station Manager Stuart Cruickshank, the incident commander, said: “It was a very good stop – they did well to prevent the flames spreading and confined the smoke damage to the area adjacent to the lab.”
