Organisers of Aberdeen University’s May Festival are preparing to roll out the red carpet for a series of events celebrating the film industry.

From visits from international directors to screenings from local film buffs, the festival will seek to show people what life is like working in show business.

Among the visitors will be Roger Michell, director of 1999 romantic comedy Notting Hill.

Mr Michell will be give a talk about what its like to direct stars such as Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, and he will also open the floor to a question and answer session with the audience.

The festival will also highlight the works of Aberdeen University film students with screenings of their short films at King’s College.

Professor Alan Marcus, who teaches film and visual culture studies at the university, said: “I am delighted with the calibre of speakers we are welcoming to the May Festival to feature in our popular film stand, including the extraordinarily talented director Roger Michell.

“This year sees an impressive line up of filmmakers and I am sure our festival goers will be thoroughly entertained at all of these events.”

The May Festival runs from Friday May 29 to Sunday May 31.
