A sporting enthusiast from Portlethen celebrated his latest goal when he attended his graduation ceremony at His Majesty’s Theatre yesterday.
Rhys Elmslie picked up a degree in forensic and analytical science from Robert Gordon University (RGU).
His love of science and enjoyment of the course’s hands on approach to laboratory work were all he needed to motivate him to get to the finishing line.
The 21-year-old said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to graduate from RGU and something I am very proud of.
“A lot of time goes in to studying for a degree so it’s not something that can be entered into lightly.”
Sport was a big part of Mr Elmslie’s time at university as he played as a wide receiver for the American football team the Aberdeen Roughnecks.
He said: “It’s great fun, you do so much with people beyond the games, there are lots of social events.”
He now plans to move away from Aberdeen to get a role in a chemistry laboratory.
He said: “I think it’s time to move elsewhere in the UK or potentially abroad, depending on what job opportunities are out there.
“I know my degree from RGU will stand me in good stead whatever I choose to do next.”
