Two fire teams from Aberdeen Central and another from Anderson Drive were called to the Elphinstone Student flats, in Old Aberdeen, at 3.45pm today. The pipe burst in a stairwell of the building, triggering a fire alarm. Firefighters used a height vehicle to gain access to the building through it’s roof. A fire and rescue service spokeswoman said: “We removed part of the ceiling and we’re involved in salvage work and cleaning up the water damage. “They had to take down part of the ceiling to access part of the burst pipe. The incident was brought under control by 4.50pm. Police were also called to the scene just before 4pm but were not required.
