An Aberdeen university’s student union has been awarded a six-figure sum by the Scottish Government to continue to tackle climate change.
Robert Gordon University’s student-led RGU Go Green initiative has received the maximum grant of £149,958 from the Climate Change Fund to continue to spearhead a number of eco-friendly projects.
The Student President, Edward Pollock, said he was delighted about the new funding.
Mr Pollock added: “RGU Go Green is an initiative which has achieved so much since it was established, but the money ran out, so we are relieved that the project can continue raising environmental awareness among the student body and wider community.”
One of the projects the funding will go towards is a community zero-waste café, run by student volunteers, which will aim to raise awareness of low-carbon food and reducing waste.
The grant also provides students with the chance to take part in a training project and try an “Eco-Driver Simulator” that will help them save fuel.
Mr Pollock added: “RGU is committed to tackling climate change and these latest projects will give students additional opportunities to get involved with sustainability.”
