A north-east photography student has launched an exhibition of her work celebrating some of the region’s favourite landmarks.
Rachael Webster from Peterhead snapped pictures of sites including Fyvie Castle near Turriff, Craigievar Castle near Alford and Brodie Castle near Forres for her project.
The 20-year-old, who is studying commercial photography at Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) Gray’s School of Art, said the exhibition was inspired by her youth.
“As a child, my family were members of the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) and we used to have many family outings to the locations which I have photographed for this project,” she said.
“I have a personal connection and memories with most of them and re-visiting these with a new view as a young adult and from a different perspective has brought back this joy and shown a new light on just how important supporting this organisation has been.”
Miss Webster is eager to celebrate the work done by NTS in preserving historic properties in Aberdeenshire and beyond.
“I used a variety of equipment to enable me to capture all of the different images and tried to focus on showing the property in its landscape as well as highlighting the detail and beauty in the architecture,” she added. “I also tried to give a sense of the history of the building.”
RGU’s commercial photography course is the only one of its kind in Scotland and combines photographic training with business studies.
Last night course leader Mick Eason said: “As usual the students are working hard to complete work for the exhibition and I looking forward to seeing the work displayed for this year’s show.
“There is a good mix of subject matter ranging from sci-fi film posters to food photography, showing the diverse nature of commercial photography in today’s ever-changing world.”
Miss Wilson’s images will be on display alongside her classmates’ at Gray’s School of Art on Garthdee Road until Saturday. A selection of images will also appear in the art school’s official degree show exhibition next month.
