A budding physicist yesterday spoke of her excitement about working with MRI scanners in the city where they were first invented.
Lauren Urquhart was delighted to pick up her physics degree from Aberdeen University.
After starting on her physics degree with no set direction of where to go, she quickly developed a passion for medical physics and is now enrolling on a post-graduate course in the city.
Miss Urquhart, of Nairn, said: “I did my honours project based in MRI so I got the opportunity to be involved in clinical studies and monitoring MRI techniques.
“I’m now going on to study medical physics here in Aberdeen as an honours.
“It was definitely being in Aberdeen that got me interested in medical physics to begin with, with all the links that Aberdeen has, being home to the MRI scanner. It was really a once in a life time opportunity being able to work on the projects that I
have at such a young age.”
The 21-year-old now hopes she can establish herself in the field, and make a “real change” in the future.
“It’s a topic that is always changing and I hope that I some point I can make a real change in medical physics and pursue a career in this field in the long term,” she said.
“Doing my degree in Aberdeen and the opportunities that have been available to me have absolutely changed my life and I am very excited about what the future holds.”
