One of Scotland’s most exciting country dining establishments, the two AA Rosette Restaurant at The Taynuilt Hotel, is hosting a special wine dinner on Thursday, October 13, to showcase the wines of the “little guys” or to give them their French title the “Terroiristes”.
These are wine producers who work the vineyards themselves, using grapes that are not commonly grown en masse; helped by friends and family, these producers are involved throughout the whole wine-making process.
The Taynuilt’s sommelier, David Lapsley, will be presenting a selection of English and French wines alongside his specialist wine supplier Inverarity Morton’s wine development manager Eva Francesci.
Chef patron, 25-year-old John McNulty – one of Scotland’s one-to-watch chefs – has in turn created a gourmet six-course menu designed to complement the wines whilst showcasing the very best of local Scottish seasonal produce.
Highlights of the menu will include the hotel’s own home-smoked salmon, caviar and Scottish seaweed with Hebridean sea salt oat crumb; breast of duck with a duck leg and marmalade parcel, aubergine puree and foraged mushrooms and autumnal plum soufflé with vanilla and plum compote.
The cosy coaching inn is nestled at the foot of Ben Cruachan, between Loch Etive and Loch Awe and takes its name from the Gaelic for “house by the stream”. Set in an area of outstanding beauty and steeped in history, it is the inspired choice for discovering the west coast of Scotland and enjoying the best of its food and drink. Best of all, there is a train station in the heart of Taynuilt village and only minutes from the hotel which itself is around 10 miles from Oban.
Prices for the wine dinner are £70 per person; wine, dinner B&B is £225 and £349 for the wine dinner and two nights’ B&B. Contact The Taynuilt Hotel by calling 01866 822437 or by visiting the website at www.taynuilthotel.co.uk
