Canadian artist Lee Henderson is at The Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown this summer as part of the distillery’s annual Artists in Residence programme. Originally from Saskatchewan, he is usually based in Toronto.
When does your weekend start?
There isn’t a bit of experience or entertainment or diversion that doesn’t find its way back into the art studio, which means that I’m always on the brain-clock in some form or another.
Perfect night in?
It would include mushroom risotto and an amarone, but otherwise I’m not fussy.
Perfect night out?
I’m afraid I don’t long to go out – there’s a pretty thriving stand-up comedy scene in Toronto so that’s the current go-to.
Ideal weekend partner?
If they’re truly an ideal, then I can’t put a description of them into words; render an ideal in text and it becomes at least partly mundane. (Addendum: it would have to be somebody who thinks this answer is at least a little bit funny.)
Favourite weekend shopping destination?
I have to confess that I loathe shopping, unless it can be done surgically.
Favourite place to walk?
There’s an absolutely gorgeous former rail path between the Glenfiddich Distillery and Craigellachie – that’s my current favourite, I think.
Perfect Sunday breakfast?
Full Scottish breakfast. Plus a side of Irish soda bread (sorry, Scotland).
Your cure for the Sunday blues?
Don’t get ‘em. Sorry. Sundays are amazing, and anyway, I just pour it all into work.
Your dream weekend (if money was no object)?
Let’s say I take my girlfriend and some pals to a couple of gigs in the back room at the Rivoli in Toronto. I’d love to see George Carlin perform one night and Bill Hicks the next – I mean, since money’s no object, I’m just assuming the ghosts of stand-up comedians are on the table in this dream scenario, too, yeah?
