From puppets to paint, it’s time to think outside the box.

Puppet Crafts
Local textile designer Elaine Grant will help children create colourful puppets to take home with them.
Children aged three to 12 are welcome to join her sessions where they will learn how to make their own characterful creations. Sessions will be on July 24 and August 3 at the Aberdeen Maritime Museum, entry is free and donations to the Family Fun Programme are encouraged.

Aberdeen Art Fair
This summer the Aberdeen Art Fair returns for its ninth year. A large collection of original arts and crafts awaits visitors looking for something interesting and affordable. The fair runs from August 30 to September 1 and will take place at the newly refurbished Music Hall. Admission is free.

Creative Kids Camp
Children in P4-7 are being given the opportunity to take part in a week-long art camp at The Barn near Banchory. While there, children will be entertained through a combination of music, art, crafts, and dance. The camp will run from July 22-July 26 and from August 12-16 at The Barn, Burn O’ Bennie, Banchory. Floral Workshop
Always struggled to arrange flowers nicely? Learn from a professional at Artesmia Floral Art’s workshop. A trained florist will guide you through the creative process while budding amateurs will be given free rein to design and create their own individual masterpieces. Textile Printing Workshop
This summer workshop allows participants to create standing floor lights with their very own designs. First learn the ancient art of block printing, and use this technique to design and print the covering of a floor lamp on a fabric of your choice. Dyeing the Colours of Scotland
Another craft event taking place at The Barn, this workshop looks to explore traditional Scottish methods of plant-based dyeing. The workshop will provide an introduction to the technique as well as practical application. You will be able to use local plants to create your own dyed material in this workshop suitable for all levels of ability, including absolute beginners. Drum Castle Autumn Food and Craft Festival
This September, Drum’s Autumn Food and Craft Festival returns, surrounding the ancient castle with many skilled crafters who will be demonstrating their talents. Four-Day Clay Sculpting Workshop
In this workshop you will spend four days making traditional clay sculptures. Taught at Gray’s School of Art, the course will begin with sketches before exploring sculpting techniques by creating torsos and full figures from clay. Aberdeen Ministry of Crafts
Aberdeen’s monthly art and craft market returns this August, featuring more than 20 stalls of crafty products. Since 2013 this relaxed market has allowed buyers to purchase handmade pieces directly from local artists. With new art being discovered every month there is always something interesting to see. The market is held at The Coffee House, Gaelic Lane, Aberdeen, on August 3 and the first Saturday of each month after that. Entry is free.
