Aberdeen music festival True North – which celebrates the diverse north-east music scene – will return this week.

From when and where True North will take place to who’s going to perform, here’s everything you need to know about the popular music festival.

What is True North?

From soulful grassroots artists to internationally-renowned musicians, True North promises to bring together everything that makes the north-east music scene “diverse and exciting”.

Everyone’s invited to discover new artists and celebrate the greats who inspired them during the upcoming four-day music event.

True North is organised by Aberdeen Performing Arts.

When and where will the festival take place?

The award-winning festival will return for its eighth year from Thursday September 22 to Sunday September 25, with performances at the Music Hall, Lemon Tree and the new pop-up venue, Wonder Hoose, located in the stunning setting of the Marischal College quad.

Who’s the headliner?

Legendary Scottish alt-rockers Travis will headline this year’s True North music festival.

The band, which is currently on a tour to mark 20 years since the release of their chart-topping album The Invisible Band, will play the record in full when they take to the Music Hall stage on September 24.

Emeli Sande will perform in the True North concert celebrating Aretha Franklin and curated by Mica Paris.

Another exciting event taking place during True North is Mica Paris’ celebration of Aretha Franklin. The gifted singer will be joined by special guests – including Aberdeen’s own Emeli Sande – to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul on September 25.

Who else will perform?

Those attending the north-east music festival can also look forward to seeing London band Los Bitchos who will be supported by Medicine Cabinet and Connor Clark and the Matador Kings on Thursday.

There will also be a series of early evening gigs in the Wonder Hoose featuring AiiTEE, Emma Pollock, Honeyblood’s Stina Marie Claire and Michael Timmons and interactive family shows from CBeebie’s favourite YolanDa’s Band Jam and Sprog Rock.
