First they tackled history, then the Bible. Now, comedy theatre company the Reduced Shakespeare Company tackles the subject it was born to reduce in size – comedy itself.
From high-brow to the low, The Complete History of Comedy (abridged) covers comedy through the ages, from Aristophanes, Shakespeare and Moliere to the days of Vaudeville and Charlie Chaplin then on again to The Daily Show and Nick Clegg, with everything from cavemen telling rock jokes to Chris Rock jokes in between.
Lasting a full 90 minutes, and written and directed by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor, the show promises to be more affordable than tickets to an amusement park, but you’ll come away with the same feeling of nausea and motion sickness – a pledge that will certainly appeal to fun-seekers. Deconstructing the entire history of comedy is scheduled to take at least 90 fun-filled minutes.
The show is at Eden Court Theatre on Tuesday, February 10, at 8pm. Contact 01463 234234 or visit www.eden-court.co.uk
