An award-winning Aberdeen writer has been shortlisted for the finals of a national book competition.
Louise Greig created The Night Box along with illustrator Ashling Lindsay which will be considered by judges for this year’s Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.
Kiran Millwood Hargrave, the winner of the 2017 prize, topped the bestseller chart with a huge boost in sales in book stores across the country.
Six books have been shortlisted for each of three categories: Illustrated Books, Younger Fiction and Older Fiction.
Ms Greig published her first picture book The Island and the Bear last year and has won several poetry prizes.
She said: “I am thrilled that The Night Box has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award and am delighted that Ashling Lindsay and the entire Egmont team have received fitting recognition for their vision and dedication.”
Carmen Cabera, who works at the Waterstones in Aberdeen, said the writer had previously entertained children with a successful reading event at the city centre book shop.
She said: “Louise has a wonderful knack for storytelling, her books have a magical quality, appealing to both children and adults alike.
“Her first storybook The Island and the Bear was a runaway success, the launch at our bookshop was a sell-out event.
“We fondly remember how Louise hypnotised her audience with her stories that day and how she stirred up everyone’s imagination.
“We are beyond thrilled that The Night Box has been shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.”
The winners will be announced on March 22 during a ceremony at the Waterstones Piccadilly store in London.
