As the owner of two very successful businesses in Inverness, music venue Hootananny and The Joy of Talk restaurant, there’s not many in the Highlands who haven’t heard of Kit Fraser.
Those he hasn’t wined, dined or entertained may recall him dipping a toe or two into the world of politics, while others may recall seeing him on Wogan after he’d written a book about the time he swapped life as a country toff to become a coal miner.
Put simply, he’s the ideal dinner companion as he’s never short of amusing anecdotes, many at his own expense.
This sense of fun, along with a large serving of brutal honesty, are evident throughout the book which is a highly entertaining read.
It touches on everything from death and divorce from his wife – and the family dog, to abortion and the birth of his first grandchild.
While some tales are re-told with entertainment in mind, others make for slightly uncomfortable reading because they’re so intimate and personal, you wonder what he was thinking when he decided to share them.
That of course, makes it a good read.
From his daily conversations with God to the perils of growing old, there’s a topic of interest in here that will appeal to anyone who is the wrong side of 50.
