Forres-based author, Jane Yeadon’s fourth novel is a biographical account of growing up on a Highland farm in the 1950s and is both charming and fascinating.
Jane Yeadon has penned three volumes about her experiences nursing in Scotland and Belfast in the 1960s. For this novel she relives her childhood on Tombain farm, near Forres in the early 1950s.
When the author was just six weeks old and her elder sister was two, her father was killed in a motorbike accident, leaving his wife, Elizabeth to look after the family and run the farm.
In addition, Jane’s mother was a talented journalist who found time to pen a weekly column, recording daily life on a rural farm.
Jane, who was born in Forres and train in Aberdeen as a nurse, has written an interesting and warm book that is rich in detail about the difficulties in operating and maintaining a farm but it also takes a lovely look at family life and the country community.
