Book Review – Doctor Who: Time Lord Fairy Tales by Justin Richards
ByMartin Hutchinson
Hardback by Penguin Books, £12.99
Some of these stories have been alluded to in the TV series – ‘The Three Little Sontarans’ and ‘Snow White and the Seven Keys To Doomsday’ among them. Mr Richards has taken 15 traditional fairy tales and given them a Dr Who twist by introducing characters from the series.
‘Frozen Beauty’ is, of course, his take on ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘The Three Little Sontarans’ is ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘Jak and the Wormhole’ substitutes a wormhole for a beanstalk. ‘The Scruffy Piper’ has the Second Doctor playing the Pied Piper.
It’s all very clever and has superb illustrations throughout. It will appeal to adults as well as children.
