Pupils from St. Margaret’s School for Girls in Aberdeen have successfully completed a string of overseas concerts, which took them to the Polish city of Krakow .
The students travelled to the city earlier this month, performing four concerts in five days. The music department usually attends an overseas concert tour every two years, with recent performances taking them to Germany, Austria, Hungary and the USA.
The group of 37 formed as an orchestra, choir, string ensemble, concert band, ceilidh band and various other chamber groups.
Peter Parfitt, the school’s director of music, said: “The girls worked extremely hard to perfect their performances for the Poland trip. During our five-day trip they performed at Redemptoris Church, XXVIII High School, St Peter and St Paul’s Church in the Old Town and at an outdoor concert in the Market Square.”
Mr Parfitt continued, “The city is steeped in history and culture and the girls also enjoyed some time to explore the city as well as performing to the people of Kraków.”
Head Teacher Anna Tomlinson said: “Music is held in high esteem at St Margaret’s, both by our pupils and by our staff, and the school is acknowledged throughout the city and the region as a place of musical excellence. All girls are encouraged to acquire choral and instrumental skills and enjoy participating in the school’s various bands, choirs and orchestras.”
She continued: “Regular solo and group opportunities are available throughout the school year, both on and off site, both formal and informal. Our girls represented our school and city in the best way possible and we are very proud of them.”
