Star of The Wire and Luther, Idris Elba, has been lined up for a set at one of the north’s top music festivals.

Though best known for his onscreen roles he will be turning to his other passion by hitting the decks at this summer’s Groove Loch Ness dance music festival.

The event is staged near Dores on the normally quiet banks of the loch which organisers aim to turn into “Scotland’s biggest nightclub under the stars”.

He will be performing under his “alter ego” DJ Big Driis and is likely to be playing his own brand of house music.

Despite receiving much acclaim as an actor, Mr Elba has amassed a pretty impressive music pedigree as both a DJ and producer.

In 2006, he recorded the four-song EP Big Man but the release of the EP High Class Problems Vol. 1 four years later put him on the map.

In the UK it garnered considerable acclaim and won a number of prizes earning a Billboard Music Awards nomination.

He has also co-produced and performed on the intro to Jay-Z’s album American Gangster and played a set at the 2007 NBA All Star parties at The Venetian and Ice House Lounge in Las Vegas.

In Berlin back in 2015, Elba opened for Madonna during her Rebel Heart tour.

The Groove Loch Ness dance music festival takes place on August 18.
