The Tiree Music Festival – in the self-acclaimed Hawaii of the North – has entertained thousands for its ninth show.
The multi-award-winning event has enjoyed another fantastic success with thousands coming from far and wide to be part of a fun-packed weekend of entertainment.
The sold-out event kicked off on Friday with a cross-genre of bands including the Paul McKenna Band, Beinn Lee, The Amorettes, Wolfstone and Scarlet Randle.
Local band Trail West launched their brand-new album ‘From the sea to the city’ to a lively TMF audience to close the opening night in style.
Singer-songwriter Be Charlotte went down brilliantly for her debut Tiree performance while Ho-ro got the crowds warmed up with a lively afternoon performance.
The multi-award winning Skerryvore, who formed on the island of Tiree in 2004, closed the Saturday night of the festival.
For the final day, the stage welcomed RURA, Elephant Sessions, The Hoosiers and closed with another local band Skipinnish – marking the first time the festival has programmed three Tiree bands to be the closing headliners for all three nights of the festival.
Daniel Gillespie, artistic director of Tiree Music Festival, said: “It’s been a brilliant ninth year and we’d like to thank all of the artists, visitors, sponsors and the local community for their continued support.
“Next year will be our 10th anniversary and we’re working hard behind the scenes with lots of surprises already planned! Early bird tickets will be released soon so keep your eyes out for those.”
Brand-new to TMF 2018 was also the Elevate Stage – the new outdoor stage, supported by the Year of Young People 2018 event fund, was programmed entirely by TMF’s new Youth Artistic Programmer Jamie MacDonald – who’s programming skills definitely didn’t go unnoticed with huge crowds watching all 18 bands across the weekend.
The family festival also introduced a brand new creative programme entitled ‘Elements’ – a strand that explores the four core elements that are a key part of life on Tiree – Sun, Sand, Wind and Water.
The DeLighters group represented the Sun element when they wowed the TMF audiences by performing a mesmerising fire show centred around the sun.
Sand in your Eye made the most of Tiree’s white beaches when they treated Crossapol beach as their ‘workshop’ for the weekend.
The team created spectacular sand sculptures including recreating the TMF logo and a giant lobster.
They also invited visitors to the festival to get involved with some lessons on the beach on the final day.
Using the famous Tiree wind to their advantage, TMF also worked in collaboration with local company Wild Diamond to offer watersport activities including wind surfing, surfing and paddle boarding.
