Three members of the acclaimed Transatlantic Sessions – Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle – will share a stage in Inverness and Aberdeen as part of a UK tour which offers music fans a rare chance to see three of the world’s finest musicians play together.
Master of flutes, whistles and Uilleann pipes Mike McGoldrick is a founding member of Flook and Lunasa and a current member of Capercaillie. Regarded as one of the greatest flute players of all time, he has toured with everyone from Bob Dylan to Kate Rusby. John McCusker’s fiddle playing has earned him a worldwide reputation as one of the most gifted and versatile musicians of any genre.
John joined the Battlefield band when he was just 17 and spent 11 years touring the world with the now legendary folk outfit. His skills have seen him work with artists ranging from Paolo Nutini and Jools Holland to Steve Earle and Rosanne Cash.
Last but by no means least is John Doyle, a guitarist, songwriter and singer who has played an essential role in the ongoing renaissance of Irish traditional music. Now living in the States, John was the recent musical director for Joan Baez and toured with her for two years. One half of the stellar duo Liz Carroll and John Doyle, he is also a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Irish group Solas.
The trio play The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen, on Monday, February 16, (www.aberdeenperformingarts.com) and Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, on Tuesday, February 17 (www.eden-court.co.uk).
