The Universal Hall, Findhorn, plays host to what promises to be a highly entertaining concert entitled Reels to Ragas, on Sunday, March 8. The concert will be a fusion of Scottish and Indian music as Scottish contemporary new music ensemble Red Note is joined by internationally acclaimed tabla player Kuljit Bhamra, who is a pioneer of the worldwide Bhangra phenomenon.
Kuljit, a virtuosic instrumentalist and highly skilled composer, has worked on numerous film scores and west-end musicals such as Bombay Dreams. Flying the flag for Scotland is superb piper and multi-instrumentalist Fraser Fifield, who has wowed audiences several times at the Findhorn venue with his virtuosity on all kinds of woodwind and pipes.
Red Note’s performing ensemble is drawn from the deep talent pool of Scottish new-music expertise. From this collaboration, expect new pieces and new sounds that explore tabla rhythms, love songs, dance music, a hint of Bollywood and plenty to recognise immediately, even in their new guise.
The show on Sunday, March 8, starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £10/£6 concessions, can only be bought on the door on the night. Contact www.universalhall.co.uk
