South-Yorkshire indie-rockers The Sherlocks are set to play their first gig in Aberdeen.
The up-and-coming band of brothers will play a headline show at The Tunnels on Saturday, October 17, as part of a three-date tour of Scotland.
Their visit is only three weeks before the release of their new single, Heart of Gold, on November 6.
The song has been championed by Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and 6 Music legend Steve Lamacq.
The group have high hopes after their last tune, Escapade, reached number three in the iTunes alternative chart and number 45 in the official chart.
The Sherlocks are a band of brothers – lead singer-songwriter and guitarist Kiaran Crook, his brother and drummer Brandon, guitarist Josh Davidson and his brother and bassist Andy.
Their visit to Aberdeen is another highlight in an incredible year. As well as relentlessly touring across Britain, they’ve played two sets at the Isle of Wight Festival and performed to thousands of fans at Reading and Leeds Festivals. In June, they sold out a huge homecoming gig at the 900-capacity Lead Mill in Sheffield.
The Press and Journal spoke exclusively with frontman Kiaran before they started their journey north.
“We’re really looking forward to coming to Aberdeen. We’ve heard the crowds at The Tunnels love their music and we’ve a great set ready to play. It should be a top night.
“Some of our best shows have been north of the border. Venues like King Tut’s in Glasgow have become like second homes to us so we’re looking to spending even more time in Scotland.”
All of The Sherlocks’ songs capture a winning combination of urgent guitar riffs and drums, fantastic melodies and strong vocals.
Their single Heart of Gold is their best song yet, although there is plenty of competition from others and Kiaran and the band are working on more.
“I carry on writing even when we’re recording in the studio. Together with our producer Gavin Monaghan, who’s worked with Ocean Colour Scene, we strip down our music, rebuild it and keep things interesting.
“Getting Heart of Gold on Radio 1 has been crazy. We’ve been brilliantly supported by local radio, but hearing ourselves on Huw Stephens’ and Phil Taggart’s shows has been amazing.
“Sometimes we didn’t know we were being played until we saw messages on Twitter, so it even caught us by surprise.”
Later this month Kiaran, Brandon, Josh and Andy will have a session and interview at the famous BBC Maida Vale studios with Steve Lamacq on 6 Music.
These are exciting times for the hardworking Sherlocks. Things are moving quickly. See them as they are now when they play The Tunnels, Carnegie’s Brae, Union Street, Aberdeen, on Saturday, October 17. Tickets £8 advance plus booking fee.
