Local dancers had the time of their lives as they learnt some of the iconic moves from the hit stage show Dirty Dancing yesterday.
The show returns to Aberdeen’s HM Theatre for a four-week run later this year, and will delight audiences with some energetic moves to classic hits such as Hungry Eyes, Do You Love Me and (I Had) The Time of My Life.
Yesterday, professional dancers Lisa Welham and Albey Brooks gave local dancers a sneaky peak of what they could look forward to as they put them through their paces during an hour-long workshop.
Producer Karl Sydow was on hand to give the inside story on how he brought the classic Patrick Swayze film to the stage.
He said: “The original film only cost $5million (£3.2million) to produce and we’ve spent more than that every time we’ve brought it to the stage.
“When we came to Aberdeen in 2012 it was extraordinary time and we filled the theatre and it was an all-time box office record here.
“The audience is incredibly enthusiastic here. (They’re) very vocal and it’s a beautiful theatre. I find Aberdeen itself quite dramatic as a place to come.”
Abigail Stewart, 15, a pupil at Harlaw Academy, was at the workshop with the Academy Street Dance Studio.
She said: “It was really good to learn a bit of a different style. It’s a lot more relaxed than what I’m used to.
“I’d definitely think about learning more of it.”
Dirty Dancing will run from September 8-October 3.
