Mike Maran’s latest production is Rhapsody in Green, a deeply moving and inspirational show based on the life and writings of the great Scottish naturalist John Muir.
Born in Dunbar in the 1930s, Muir left Scotland and moved to the US, where he explored forests and glaciers and championed Yosemite, now a national park, in California.
Directed by Patrick Sandford and with sound designed by Frances M. Lynch and Herbie Clarke, Mike Maran, a gifted storyteller, takes his audience into the Alaskan interior some time shortly after the death of John Muir in 1914. He plays Muir’s close friend the Rev Samuel Hall Young, who is on retreat in the Alaskan wilderness. There, beside his wigwam, sledge and team of huskies, he remembers his friend, his love of the wilderness and particularly how Muir once saved his life.
One of Maran’s finest works, Rhapsody in Green is at Eden Court, Inverness, Saturday, June 13, with a performance at 8pm. Contact the box office on 01463 234234 or visit www.eden-court.co.uk
