A three-year art project will finally be completed this year at one of the region’s top cultural events.
The Ebb and Flow project created by local artists Bryan and Carla Angus is based on the movement of Scots around the globe.
The pair will stage its grand finale on the shores of Portsoy at the 21st Scottish Traditional Boat Festival next month.
Mr and Mrs Angus, from Banff, have taken inspiration from the visitors who come to Portsoy from a host of international destinations every year during the festival weekend.
Through their art, they want to explore visitors’ migration to and from the town.
The project, which has been funded by Creative Scotland, was commissioned to run for three years.
This year it will return to the festival for the final time as part of Scotland’s national year of Homecoming, when expats are encouraged to return home to their roots.
The pair will showcase their artwork at two sites during the festival, which will run from June 27-29.
One is an art installation, which has been influenced by photographic archives, town maps, and the stories of Portsoy’s residents and visitors.
There other is a large interactive map of the world, illustrating where festival attendees come from to attend the popular festival in the north-east.
Mrs Angus said: “The hundreds of people we have met at the festival all share a common belief that there is something magnetic about Portsoy.
“From speaking to visitors, we have discovered that for many there is a need to come back to Portsoy to re-engage with an image of Scotland that is so dearly cherished in hearts and minds.”
Festival chairman Roger Goodyear added: “The festival not only celebrates maritime heritage, it also places a strong focus on Scotland’s authentic arts and crafts.
“I’m sure that everyone who has visited Bryan and Carla over the years will be interested to see how the project will culminate.”
