A previously “run-down” sports centre has undergone a colourful makeover as part of a £250,000 improvement project.
Local artists were recruited to spruce up the exterior of Sheddocksley Sports Centre as it undergoes a transformation both inside and out.
One of them, Jon Reid, explained that the design for the mural came together after holding sessions with locals to find out how they wanted the centre to look.
Mr Reid said: “Having spent my youth playing football in Sheddocksley and Mastrick, it is fantastic to return with the project, adding some colour to the building but also finding out more about the facility.
“The mural has been a fantastic experience for us.”
Fellow artist Mary Butterworth added: “We’ve had some lovely warm responses whilst painting, which has been amazing.”
The building is being redeveloped by Sport Aberdeen and its director of community leisure operations, David Selkirk, last night praised the “vibrant” design.
He said: “There is so much great work going on to strengthen the community within the Sheddocksley area, and we are extremely proud to be able to add to that by offering a safe and welcoming space for residents to get active.”
The venue’s gym underwent an extension which more than doubled its floorspace, while its reception area was also upgraded as part of the revamp inside.
