A bestselling Aberdeen illustrator, who pioneered the adult colouring book, is attempting to create the world’s largest drawing.
Johanna Basford OBE, will attempt to smash the current Guinness World
Record for the largest drawing by an individual.
She hopes to complete a mammoth floral artwork, measuring 4,520 square feet, in less than 12 hours at her former school, Ellon Academy.
Ms Basford, who will draw from 9am to 9pm and will be using pencils and marker pens, said: “I’ll be drawing on huge rolls of paper, taped to the floor of the gym hall.
“It’s a nerve-wracking challenge but I’m excited to get started.
“My mission is to dispel the fear many people feel when faced with a blank sheet of paper.
“I want to encourage people to put their phones down and pick their pencils up.
“Art is a wonderful way to recharge and relax – something we all need to do more of.”
The 36-year-old published her first book, Secret Garden, in 2013, and has since been at the forefront of the adult colouring book craze.
The Guinness World Record is currently held by Aman Singh Gulati.
