A raft of fan-favourite comedians, top musicians and blockbuster shows have been announced as coming to the north-east.
Aberdeen Performing Arts has launched its programme for 2020, promising there will be “no better place” to see world-class acts such as Paul Weller and Rob Brydon.
The organisation’s headline show for the year, The Book of Mormon, will arrive at His Majesty’s Theatre in May, and bosses have revealed that more than 5,000 tickets were purchased within the first 24 hours of it going on sale.
Tours of The Addams Family, Friendsical, Mamma Mia!, Footloose and Buddy will also visit the venue over the course of the year.
The new season of shows will feature Scottish Ballet performances of Swan Lane and The Nutcracker, and a “stunningly dramatic” production of Scandal at Mayerling.
Elsewhere in the city centre, acts including Paul Weller, King Creosote and Twin Atlantic will grace the stage of the Music Hall.
Comedy shows from Josh Widdicome, Rob Brydon and Rob Beckett have also been announced.
Others include the 99th annual student show Freezin’, local group AOC Productions’ staging of Guys and Dolls, and Peppa Pig’s Best Day Ever.
And while this year’s pantomime, Cinderella, is yet to begin its festive run, Aberdeen Performing Arts has revealed that tickets for next year’s will soon be available for purchase.
The organisation is promising “stunning special effects and star-casting” with Beauty and the Beast running from November 28, 2020, to January 3, 2021.
Director of programming Ben Torrie: “2020 will absolutely prove that HMT is the true home of the West End in the north-east with some of the biggest musicals ever created gracing the stage.
“The Music Hall has really established itself as a top-class venue once again with a diverse programme of quality performance from rock legends to emerging superstars, fabulous symphony orchestras to intimate roots gigs, and some of the most popular entertainment stars performing today.
“There is no better place to see great music and comedy and 2020 is off to a brilliant start with this new season.”
