Councillors could sign-off on spending £100,000 to bring the British Art Show to Aberdeen next year.
The influential touring exhibition is scheduled to open at Aberdeen Art Gallery in July, remaining in the north-east until October.
It is forecast to attract tens of thousands of visitors to the city.
Organisers rescheduled the show, which goes on the road once every five years, in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Aberdeen is the only Scottish leg of the tour, which will arrive from Wolverhampton and leave the Granite City for Plymouth and then Manchester.
Each of the four cities are expected to contribute £100,000 to cover the costs associated with the exhibition, including covering fees to curators and artists.
Council officers, who have recommended the spend be approved, has the potential to “kick start” a regeneration of cultural activity in Aberdeen.
Previous British Art Shows have reportedly attracted between 80,000 and 120,000 visitors to host cities.
