With customers unable to browse the carefully curated works of the Aberdeen Art Fair in person this year, the annual event has gone digital.

A virtual exhibition of more than 500 works has been set up online, featuring pieces available for sale from local, national and international artists.

The wares on offer include sculptures, prints and photography and range in price from £50 to over £20,000.

And rather than the organisers taking a cut of commission, buyers can contact each artist individually to discuss a purchase.

Entry to the virtual event is free, but organisers are encouraging those interested to make a donation to charity Hamish Dear’s Warm Hugs, which provides supports for children with cancer.

Organiser Gerry Muldoon, of GM Events, said: “This has been an extraordinary year and, while we are sorry that we are unable to bring  the Music Hall event to people, we look forward to art lovers across the country and beyond being taken on adventure from the comfort of their own home.

“The VAAF is very easy to navigate, with original art, sculpture, prints, photography and more to choose from with a superb selection of household name creatives, award winners, local, celebrity and emerging artists while, for the first time, we will be featuring works from France, Germany and Holland.

“The VAAF website will take no commission and customers will be purchasing directly from the gallery or artist.”

Managing director of event sponsor Taqa, Donald Taylor, added: “The Virtual Aberdeen Art Fair is a great opportunity to enable artists and galleries to come together to showcase their work virtually to ensure our communities are supported, while allowing audiences to access art in a new way.”

The virtual fair runs until December 30.
