An unusual display of automotive artwork has gone on show in the north-east.
Former engineer Mike Brown is showcasing some eye-catching paintings of motorcycle parts at a special exhibition in Peterhead’s Arbuthnot Museum.
The pieces, inspired by American realist painters, show highly detailed components of classic bikes.
The 67-year-old, from Mintlaw, said last night: “I’ve been painting since the sixties, but two years ago I decided to jack in my work in the oil and gas industry because I was getting absolutely nothing out of it.
“Its given me the chance to go back to my real passion of painting and drawing and now that’s what I do full-time. I’m into realism in a big way, which is why a lot of the paintings get mistaken for photographs.”
Glasgow-born Mr Brown said many of the acrylic on canvas pieces were inspired by his strong interest in motorcycle restoration.
“I’m intrigued by the effects light plays on steel and man-made structures and how reflections can change your perception of reality,” he said.
“The museum has done a great job of staging the exhibition and the feedback I’ve been getting from folk has been brilliant.
“A lot of men have come up to me and told me it was great to have an art exhibition that they can appreciate. Its not the usual subject matter, after all.”
As well as motorcycles, there are paintings of people – including a stunning self portrait – and harbour scenes.
The exhibition runs until August 25.
