New project could see Aberdeen’s forgotten spots become creative hubs

Aberdeen City Council has launched a bid to provide new platforms for creative citizens to showcase their work.

The Creative Spaces initiative aims to find innovative ways to use the city’s empty places.

The council hopes to involve writers, designers, dancers, artists, musicians and others in the project, intended to breathe new life into abandoned shops, homes and industrial units.

Marie Boulton, depute leader of the council, said: “Much of the feedback our officers have had over the last two years is that artists are struggling to stay in the city because of a lack of space that can be used as studios, galleries or for performances.

“This project aims to tackle this by putting the information in the hands of artists, bringing them together to see if they share similar goals and if, jointly, they can achieve those goals.”
