Aberdeen Civic Society call for new gallery designs

The chairman of the Aberdeen Civic Society yesterday called on the city council to look at alternative designs for the re-development of the art gallery.
Dominic Fairlie argued it was not too late for the authority to consider a different approach to the revamp project.
The civic society previously objected to the plans to add an additional floor to the building, and also opposed changes to its interior.
Local artist Eric Auld and city historian Diane Morgan have also spoken out strongly against the plans.
Mr Fairlie said: “We have kind of made our position clear all the way through really in that we feel that some of the changes that are proposed to be made are not particularly appropriate for the building.
“It’s a shame really that the council don’t look at other alternatives to the original design, even at this late stage, there must be others that are less imposing.
“They are adding another story on, which is not particularly in keeping with the rest of the building, and there are one or two of the interior changes which are not particularly appropriate.”
