An exhibition of artwork inspired by Aberdeen’s architecture will soon be under the spotlight in the city.
Illustrations of some of the city’s most well-known features by local artist Jamie Cameron will be showcased in HM Theatre’s dress circle bar from next week.
The pictures capture iconic buildings like Aberdeen University’s King’s College and surrounding churches, theatre and schools.
Mr Cameron’s style has been described to “purify” the unique character of each subject, making every piece a one-off.
The artist said he studied and worked in the architecture field in Scotland and has always enjoyed drawing traditionally.
The 26-year-old, of Westhill, added: “The direct way of working, where each line can be given a unique little twist, curve or fade, allows great artistic freedom in the treatment of each subject.
“I really enjoy working with the hands too, as it encourages a more direct connection with the thing one is drawing, and there is a sense that the building is literally being ‘constructed’ as the drawing proceeds.”
Mr Cameron initially approached his work from a technical standpoint but has recently evolved into a more artistic treatment, where the beauty and finer details of each building are considered in the larger whole, and delicate shading and perspective is used to subtly alter the representation.
He added: “It is less a literal ‘snapshot’ than a particular ‘interpretation’ imbued with a certain character, which encourages you to see the building in a new light.”
The collection of detailed drawings will be on show from March 3 to May 24.
