North-east music lovers are being invited to share their favourite memories of one of the region’s iconic venues as plans are drawn up for a £7 million revamp.
Aberdeen Performing Arts, which runs the city’s Music Hall, is gathering stories from those who have stood on its stage, sat in the auditorium or worked behind the scenes over the years.
Drop-in sessions are to be held throughout the winter and stories can be sent to APA for the project.
APA producer Lesley Anne Rose said: “As the Music Hall prepares for its exciting transformation we would like to invite everyone to share with us their story or memory of the building – this could be a first date, the best concert you ever went to, your graduation on its stage or a funny or magical moment in time.
“The history of the building is made up of all of the individual stories of those who have performed on its stages, worked behind the scenes and attended all kinds of concerts, comedy gigs and other performances.
“We can’t tell the story of the Music Hall without your stories, which in turn we will place against the wider history of the building, its place on Union Street and Aberdeen.
“As well as your tales from the past, we would like to gather your hopes, dreams and wishes for the future of the building, the work programmed on its stages and the musical talent of the city and beyond.”
Some of the stories gathered will be part of the final performance on Friday, April 1, before the Music Hall closes and the transformation work begins, as part of the Music Hall’s Lights Oot programme.
APA will provide expert coaching for those who would like to tell their story themselves on the night.
Others might appear on the APA website, in print or online.
The drop-in sessions will be held in the Music Hall cafe from 10am to noon on Wednesday, December 9, Saturday, December 12, Wednesday, January 20, Saturday, January 23, Wednesday February 10 and Saturday, February 13, as well as from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, January 19 and February 9.
Stories filed by e-mail, must be no more than 500 words the deadline is Tuesday, March 1.
