Suffolks sold to a top of 1,700gn at the annual show and sale of rams and ram lambs at Thainstone.
The top price was paid for a ram lamb from Bryden Nicolson of Highfield Farming Ltd, Knock, Duns, Berwickshire.
Mr Nicolson, a native of Shetland who has been farming at Knock for the past five years, achieved the top price for the breed yesterday with a home-bred ram lamb by the 25,000gn Rhaedar Rolex 1 and out of a gimmer bought privately from Andrew Knox’s Haddo flock.
The ram lamb from Mr Nicolson’s 60-ewe flock sold to Alan Williams, in Wales.
The next best price was 800gn paid for a ram lamb from Ronald Greig’s Tillydesk flock at South Tillydesk, Ellon.
By Thurston Almighty and out of a dam by Cairness Kingsway, he sold to R. H. S. Scarborough, Cormalet, Cairnie, Huntly.
Thereafter 750gn was achieved five times, with one of the lots at this price being the pre-sale show champion from father and son duo George and Melvin Stuart, of Milltown of Birness, Ellon.
Their home-bred ram lamb is by the 7,000gn Ballynacanon Commander and out of a dam by Rhaeadr Flash Harry. He sold to John Henderson, West Teuchan Farm, Cruden Bay,
The reserve champion from the pre-sale show – a ram lamb from Judith Lorimer, of Cadgerford, Kingswells – sold for 550gn to the Mair family at Kinnermit, Turriff.
