Christmas has arrived at Fochaber’s festive hideaway and award-winning café with the launch of its Winter Festival.
Every day throughout December, the team at Gordon Castle Walled Garden Café will be serving up seasonal, festive treats as part of a Christmas Lunch menu costing £14.45 for two courses and £17.95 for three courses.
And don’t be fooled into thinking that because it’s December there’s not much happening in their kitchen garden – the café’s ‘plant, pick and plate’ ethos is still going strong and the menu is created using seasonal ingredients directly from the garden.
Because whilst the festive trees and glittering frosts add a charming winter wonderland feel to the walled garden above ground, at this time of year all the magic is really going on below the surface.
In fact, the head gardener has been looking after a host of vegetables and fruit for December, including carrots, potatoes, leeks, parsnips, brussels sprouts, kale, celeriac, apples and more!
With no lack of delicious seasonal produce to keep the kitchen garden stocked, the chefs have had fun creating a mouth-watering Christmas Lunch menu.
Highlights include the cranberry & brie stuffed Portabello mushroom starter, traditional roast turkey dinner with fresh vegetable sides and the apple and cinnamon crumble to finish.
Booking is essential if you don’t want to miss this Christmas Lunch menu from the award-winning Gordon Castle Walled Garden Café (it was named Best Eating Experience at last year’s Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards!). You can book your table online.
Upcoming Christmas events
As well as the festive menu, the team at Gordon Castle Walled Garden have also planned a series of events to celebrate Christmas with locals and visitors.
It all kicked off with the return of its hugely popular Walled Garden Christmas Market on November 30th and December 1st.
During the weekend, revellers were treated to a fully decorated walled garden (complete with trees, wreaths and festive music), stalls from local crafters and Christmas goodies like mulled wine.
But don’t worry if you missed the Christmas market – there are several other ticketed events planned throughout December!
This includes breakfast with Santa and a finale ‘Meet the Reindeers’ event which promises to be truly spectacular. This is the first time Santa and his reindeer have visited Gordon Castle Walled Garden for the festive season, so tickets are booking up fast. You can book tickets here
