P&J columnist Stephen opens new clubhouse
Top Scottish golfer Stephen Gallacher has officially opened the new £1million clubhouse at Macdonald Spey Valley in Aviemore.
The par 72 championship course, part of the Macdonald Aviemore Resort, opened in July 2006.
Designed by Dave Thomas, it features Scotland’s longest hole (635 yards) and has been voted the UK’s most picturesque.
The two-storey clubhouse overlooks the first tee against a backdrop of the Cairngorm Mountains.
It is finished in wood, and local natural stone complements its surroundings.
This month, the course will host the Scottish Hydro Challenge for the eighth consecutive year.
Stephen said: “I have been hugely impressed with everything that has been created at Macdonald Spey Valley, and the opening of the new clubhouse is a great addition to this.
“The course is a challenging one, and with some of the best views of the Cairngorms across many holes, this makes it a great destination for golfers.”
In the clubhouse, there are changing areas, a retail outlet, a lounge bar/restaurant and patio terrace for alfresco dining.
