Katie Morag, the adventurous red-haired little girl from the fictional Isle of Struay, is to come “alive” at an event to be held at Queen’s Cross Church, Aberdeen, on Saturday, November 1.
Mairi Hedderwick, the creator and illustrator of Katie Morag, will take part in an illustrated meet-the-author event facilitated by Fiona Stalker, of BBC Scotland.
Mairi will recount how, 30 years ago, she created the first Katie Morag book and she will read one of her favourite stories. She will also discuss her enjoyment at being present at some of the filming of the popular CBeebies series and there will, of course, be the opportunity for a question and answer session.
It’s a must for all Katie Morag fans.
The collection of Katie Morag books and DVDs, as well as Mairi’s popular travelogues, calendars and diaries, will be available to buy.
A specially commissioned Katie Morag Christmas card will be launched at this event – so be the first to see and buy these exclusive cards.
There are two meet-the-author sessions: 10.30am-noon and 2pm-3.30pm. Tickets, priced £5, are available from the box office on 01224 641122 or from www.aberdeen performingarts.com. Refreshments and a secondhand book sale will also run parallel to the event at the same venue between 10am-4pm.
The event is being organised as a fundraiser for Books Abroad (tel. 01464 861446) the Rhynie based charity which selects and sends much needed second hand text books to schools, colleges, universities and libraries in low income countries.
