What: Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) Aberdeen Branch AGM and dinner
Where: Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre
Who: More than 230 professionals from the subsea sector attended the event. Master of ceremonies was Capt. Stuart C. MacBride, and the after dinner speaker was Caspar Berry
Why: On the night, a generous sum of £3,005 was raised for the SUT’s Education Support Fund, which will support students studying undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in marine science and technology.
Following a drinks reception, branch chairman, Chris Milner of BPP-TECH, presented the branch report. Following the meal, former SUT chief executive, Ian Gallett, hosted the heads and tails competition – the lucky winner received a prize of £250.
The SUT Aberdeen branch Award of Merit was also presented on the night to David Kaye of Genesis Oil and Gas. This award is made to an individual who, at the discretion of the branch committee, has made an outstanding contribution to branch activities, underwater technology, the underwater industry, and the aims and objectives of the Society.
Entertainment was provided in the form of a presentation by former professional poker player, Caspar Berry. He spoke about the similarities between poker and business.
