What: The Aberdeen Buchan Association’s 104th Aul’ Eel Ball
Where: The Northern Hotel, Aberdeen
Who: Nearly 100 guests attended the much-loved north-east event, which featured an evening of eating, dancing and merriment
Why: The annual event is embedded within the city’s tradition, beginning with the suppin’ of sowens – a warm, porridge-based drink – followed by the parade with the burning Yule Log, complete with piper and candle bearers.
Vice president Tom McDonald welcomed guests, before handing over to speeches from farmer, wind farm developer and former councillor Albert Howie. The second speech for the night was delivered by Dr Don Carney who spoke on the topic, “Bringing oor past into the future”
