Hungry drivers will now be able to support local when travelling as a new drive-thru focused on showcasing north-east produce is set to open later this month.
The team at Marshall’s Farm Shop on the A96 near Kintore will open the new addition, in the coming weeks to help support their busy restaurant.
It is believed to be the first of its kind in the north of Scotland.
Drivers will be able to grab a bite to eat on-the-go with an estimated three-minute turn around for food and drink items.
Serving up their own homegrown beef, pork and eggs, Marshall’s will offer up a breakfast and lunchtime menu which will see the drive-thru operate from 7am to 4pm.
Christine Marshall, one of the family owned business’ directors says the gap in the market for this sort of experience, while supporting local, was a driving factor to launching.
The success of their Fireside Bothy drive-thru concept which they opened in 2020 and operated throughout the pandemic also outlined interest in a service like this.
“During the pandemic we transformed the outside eating space into a drive-thru barbecue facility, said Christine. “This was quite a unique offering as it was only huge chain franchises nearby offering anything similar, and the public seemed to enjoy the experience. The support from locals was incredible.
“This is such an exciting opportunity and we know there is nothing quite like it out there. None of the other firms with drive-thru’s provide the same fresh, high-quality food that we can. Our steak burgers and sausages are made on-site in our butchery, all Scotch assured meat, with a far superior quality and taste.”
The new addition is estimated to have cost £50,000 which includes creating and laying the road behind the building, Caber Coffee machine, signage, headset speaker system, till, installation of the window and additional equipment.
What’s on the menu at Marshall’s drive-thru?
Whether you’re on a health kick or are looking for something hearty, there will be something to suit.
Homegrown produce will be at the heart of the menu as well as Marshall’s own products and a variety of local produce, too.
On the breakfast front, rolls with Lorne sausage, an omelette, bacon, or all three can be purchased, with the option of adding cheese. The filled Sinclair’s Of Rhynie baps will be available until 11.30am. Christine reckons these will be very popular, but is also expecting lots of customers who are looking for a hot drink and a fine piece to pay a visit.
Bakes available will include millionaire shortbread, bakewell slice, empire biscuits, Malteaser tiffin and a toasted teacake might also fit the bill.
For lunch, which is served from 11.30am until 3pm, expect everything from homemade stovies, freshly made sandwiches, chips, deli boxes, salads and more, with Marshall’s popular burgers featuring, too.
Prices vary from £3.50 to £6.75. Cheaper snacks and soft drinks will be available to purchase throughout the day.
Children’s lunch boxes will also be available for £4.50.
How will it work?
Drivers will be guided by signage and a new road around the rear of the building where they will order from a speaker post, will drive up to the window, pay and within three minutes of ordering, customers will be able to drive off with their goods.
For larger orders that may take more time to accumulate, parking bays will be available.
A handful of full-time and part-time staff have been employed for the service which will run seven days a week.
