The National Trust for Scotland’s Castle Fraser is getting taken over by the Mediaeval Realm this weekend, when all sorts of mediaeval mayhem will ensue. Take a stroll through the castle and see which historic character you encounter first – it could be the surgeon or the herbalist sharing stories of healing and helping, or the torturer or knight, with grislier tales to tell. With games, archery and storytelling, this is a mischief-filled family event, full of fun.
Event organiser Catriona Skene said: “We’re transporting visitors back to the mediaeval age at the weekend with the help of Mediaeval Realm. Come along and encounter real-life characters who will bring Castle Fraser’s past to life.”
The event runs this Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, from 11am-4pm. Event entry is included in the castle ticket price. Castle Fraser is an atmospheric baronial castle dating back to the 15th century and was the ancestral home of the Fraser family. As you venture through the castle and up to the round tower, with its panoramic views of the gardens and estate beyond, you get a sense of life from the mediaeval to the Victorian period. Highlights include the great hall, dating back to the 1400s, a library filled with family books, and the grand worked room, featuring 18th-century embroideries. Outside, explore the garden and estate trails.
