Catriona Millar is a well-known name in Scottish art, particularly in the north-east. Tolquhon Gallery, near Tarves, is hosting her first solo exhibition in Scotland for three years.
Joan Ross, from the gallery, said: “We were disappointed when Catriona moved away, as we always enjoyed showing her work. She had her last solo exhibition with us just before she moved and it was one of our best ever, so we are delighted to welcome her back.”
Catriona studied at Gray’s School of Art, RGU, as a mature student. Her degree show was a huge success, with all her work being sold out within a few hours. Since then, she’s earned critical and popular acclaim and has been ranked as one of the top-five collectable Scottish artists.
Usually, she paints colourful people using strong colour and pattern, which makes her work very appealing. Painting in oils using a palette knife to apply paint thickly, she produces a textured effect that has become her trademark.
The exhibition, Catriona Millar in Colourful Company, is open now and continues until Sunday, June 21. The gallery is open Friday to Tuesday, closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Contact: 01651 842343 or visit www.tolquhon-gallery.co.uk
