Who: Young footballers from across Aberdeen city and shire.
What: Swedish bearings company SKF held an under-14 football tournament to decide which team would represent SKF UK at the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
Hazlehead Academy won the competition and will now follow in the footsteps of Aberdeen’s 1983 Cup Winners’ Cup heroes by heading to Gothenburg to compete in the world’s biggest football tournament for children.
The winners will join 1,600 teams from 80 nations in the tournament, which was founded in 1975.
Hazlehead Academy’s prize includes flights to Sweden, accommodation, meals and a football kit for the competition.
Former AFC player and Gothenburg Great Neil Simpson presented prizes to all players who participated in the tournament.
The charity Charlie House hosted a stand at the tournament which raised over £700, which SKF will double.
The Gothia Cup will take place from July 12-18.
