You might start out looking clean and fresh, but participants in this weekend’s Run For Colour fun 5K race will certainly not end up looking like that. Organised to raise funds for the Highland Hospice, this is a fun run with a difference, as runners are fired at with coloured paint powder at various stations along the route.
The event takes place at the Bught Park in Inverness this Saturday, July 4. Check-in starts at 11am, with a fun aerobics warm-up session at 1.30pm with Ewen Macbean and Nicola Anderson, from Inverness Leisure Centre, followed by the colourful run which gets under way at 2pm, with extra paint cannons going off.
There will be five colour stations on the day, manned by employees of local companies who will throw the coloured, biodegradable paint at the runners and walkers. There’s still time to sign up to take part. It costs £20 for adults and £15 for children, but participants are also encouraged to find sponsors to help raise money for this worthwhile charity. Entry fees include a white T-shirt, sunglasses and a packet of paint which you’ll be encouraged to throw over your friends.
Last year, just under 1,000 people took part, raising in excess of £40,000. The fundraising team is keen to beat that total. Organiser Carola Highet said: “There’s so much fun in this event and we know that people really love to take part. Last year, we had children under 10 as well as seniors taking part.
“It is a real family occasion. The route is very gentle and we make sure that the people who want to run set off first, and those who want to walk or just really enjoy being together set off a few minutes later. There’s always plenty of squealing when people start to get coloured up by the paint.”
