Preparations are well under way for Arbroath Sea Fest 2015, which is one of the biggest summer events on the east coast and is expected to attract more than 25,000 to Arbroath harbour over the weekend of August 15 and 16.
The festival is held along the town’s seafront, with the focus on the harbour and new marina. The area will be packed with entertainment stages and live music stalls, but the real star of the show will be the Arbroath Smokie – haddock smoked over hardwood. It even has its own smokie trail, made up with more than 70-odd stalls which will be dotted alongside the harbour.
There will be fishing displays, modern and traditional music and, for those who like to try a bit of retail therapy, there’s opportunity aplenty, with a wide range of stalls selling everything from fresh seafood to handmade jewellery, crafts and confectionery.
Limelight, Arbroath’s musical theatre school, is one of the local organisations that will be in the public eye during Sea Fest.
Mike Carlin, of Limelight, said: “We’ve been involved with Sea Fest for several years now and Limelight’s young performers always have a great time entertaining the thousands of people who come along. This year, we’ll once again be undertaking a series of impromptu flash mob performances during Sea Fest. Who knows where we’ll pop up with a song and dance routine.”
As well as traditional Sea Fest activities such as the daily launch of the RNLI Lifeboat, this year, the programme includes a raft race, a strongman competition and a pie-eating contest.
